Hard day’s night for Chabal in Limerick

RUGBY hardman Sebastien Chabal was involved in a punch-up outside a Limerick nightclub following Sale Sharks’ defeat by Munster last weekend.

The international rugby star, nicknamed the ‘Caveman’, was involved in the incident near the entrance of the Trinity Rooms on Michael St while out drowning his sorrows with teammates.

Security staff along with Sale team-mates had to dive in and separate a male nightclubber who toppled Chabal after an argument. It is understood the man thought Chabal was making a pass at his girlfriend and a punch was thrown.

One eye-witness said: “Words were exchanged. More words were said and there was a scuffle between the two before bouncers and a few of his team-mates broke it up.”

Chabal, aged 28, stands 6’2” and weighs in at over 16 stone. He is widely regarded as one of European rugby’s hard men and is a cult figure.

One witness said: “In fairness, the Limerick fella he came up against was big as well, but it was all over very quickly.

“Poor old Chabal was flattened on the pitch by the Munster players and later took a hit outside a nightclub by a Limerick man. It wasn’t the best of weekends for him.”

A garda spokesman said they had heard of the incident but there was no complaint lodged with the authorities.

Sale Sharks were unavailable for comment last night.
