McIvor makes sure Corinthians go top - Division Three

CORINTHIANS stand proudly at the top of Division Three with their second successive league victory - this time at home to Banbridge.

Former representative scrum half Steve McIvor coaches the club but also played a part on the pitch on Saturday when he scored one of the four tries to help secure victory (24-15) and the bonus point that helped them to the top.

Waterpark, however, are breathing down their necks after securing a hard earned home victory over Monkstown. The visitors picked up a bonus point for their efforts but Waterpark still managed to take the spoils on a 17-11 scoreline.

Highfield would appear to have put their troubles behind them. Back in division three after coming straight up from junior rugby a year after being relegated, the Cork side won their second game in succession and now lie in third position. Brian Roche scored the only try of a one sided game against Skerries and Highfield had a relaxing 17-3 win.

Instonians and Clonakilty come next. Instonians were at home to Ballina and secured a 22-13 win, while Clonakilty had an excellent away win at Donnybrook against Old Wesley. Terry Dillon contributed 14 points of a Clonakilty total of 24 as they won by double scores.

Naas were impressive on the opening day of the campaign but fell flat on Saturday when they were outscored by Queens University at Upper Malone. The students won that tie by 11-7.

Wanderers picked up their second bonus point of the competition but the former top club still await their first win. They travelled west to Connemara and left without so much as a score. Connemara kicked two penalties and took the points to push them into seventh place.

The first draw of the AIB League took place at Judge’s Road when City of Derry were unable to pull away from battling Suttonians. It ended 13 points apiece.
