Judging by the scenes at Lansdowne Road yesterday, a similar rationale could be applied to victory for, while always sweet, when victory comes against the English it seems so much sweeter.

Yesterday’s Six Nations clash was no classic, there was far too much tension for that, but Ireland’s 19-13 win (many patriots had backed a 19-16 scoreline) over the world champions was celebrated deliriously and leaves Eddie O’Sullivan’s men with only two more hurdles to clear for our first grand slam since 1948.
