BRITISH-BASED players on the Lions Tour will be £15,000 out of pocket on the trip to New Zealand after organisers opted to hand the money over as compensation to their clubs and provinces.

The move is an attempt to win support for future tours and follows similar deals struck between England and the Zurich Premiership sides.

As a result, players will collect a maximum of £27,000 if the Lions win the three-Test series against the All Blacks this summer.
