Wallace and Lane join Munster squad

GARRYOWEN’S David Wallace and Richard Lane (UCC) have been added to the Munster squad for the knock-out stages of the Heineken Cup competition.

Wallace was omitted from the original Heineken Cup squad because he was recovering from corrective surgery to a shoulder injury. Richard Lane went to school in PBC where he played full-back on the senior side beaten by CBC in the 2000 Munster Schools Senior Cup final and he also represented Munster Schools.

Last year he played on the wing for Ireland in the FIRA U-19 World Cup in Italy. This season he has graduated to the Ireland U-21 side played on the right wing against Wales in EBW Vale yesterday.

Paddy Wallace and prop Bryan Young have signed for Leinster as cover for their quarter-final meeting with Biarritz.

Competition rules state that two additional players may be added to the original squads for the knock-out stages of the tournament.

Wallace, who had not been included in Ulster’s Heineken Cup line-up due to injury (fractured fibula) trained in the early part of the season in a Celtic League match against Swansea, returned to rugby this month.
