Scrum-half Boss confirms Ulster switch
He has signed a two-year contract and will arrive in the province next October following this season’s Super 12 campaign Down Under and in time for next season’s Heineken Cup registration.
The 25-year-old will also see out his contract with Waikato who play in the National Provincial Championship before travelling over with the hope of breaking into the Irish international set-up.
Boss qualifies to play for Ireland as his grandparents are from Co Armagh. Playing for Ireland is the main motive for his move and it was one reason why he turned down the chance to tour with the All Blacks last November.
He is highly-rated and will vie for the number nine jersey with Kieran Campbell who has already broken into Eddie O’Sullivan’s training panel this season. Boss was a member of the New Zealand side that won the under-19 World Cup in 1999 and played every game in the Canterbury Chiefs’ Super 12 campaign in 2003.
Boss was forced to switch to full-back when Byron Kelleher arrived at the Chiefs and he then moved to Wellington where he now is fighting for his place with Piri Weepu who did accept the option of touring Europe with the All Blacks in the autumn.
