Foley’s ‘awesome’ record

RECORDS will be matched, enhanced and broken in the Heineken Cup this season and a central figure in that will be Munster captain Anthony Foley, who was singled out for special mention at the Dublin launch of the tournament yesterday.

Foley’s ‘awesome’ record

ERC Chief Executive Derek McGrath brought Foley into the limelight on the basis of that the Munster captain has played in 67 of Munster’s 68 European matches and, while Toulouse, three time-champions, have played four more games in the competition, Foley is still ahead of French legend Fabien Pelous (58) at the top of the individual appearance list.

But Brian O’Driscoll had his say as well. The younger man still has some way to go in order to catch Foley but he might, just might, be back in time to keep some pace on the race.
