On a day when he won the French 2,000 Guineas with Henri Matisse, Aidan O’Brien landed the Group 3 Cashel Palace Hotel Derby Trial Stakes for the seventeenth time when Epsom-bound Delacroix justified 1/3 favouritism in the Leopardstown showpiece.

The Dubawi colt, successful in the ‘Ballysax’ last month, tracked pace-making stable-companion Rock Of Cashel, eased to the front under Wayne Lordan as they straightened for home and, having quickened clear, ran on to beat promising Dundalk maiden winner Purview, having only his second start, by two and three-quarter lengths.
