A non-vintage Flat programme at Gowran Park to fill the early evening and in the testing conditions the Stephen Thorne-trained Independent Expert can get back to winning ways by taking the fourth race, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies’ Handicap.

A winner of five races when trained by Andy Slattery, the six-year-old mare made her debut for Thorne in the Irish Lincoln and was far from disgraced in finishing seventh behind Orandi. With a big field and differences of opinion as to which side to race, it was a somewhat strange contest, and in those circumstances, she ran better than the bare result.
