As well as the classy National Hunt fare, there was good Flat action on Thursday in Galway and Gary Carroll gave two exemplary rides to complete a 186-1 double which included the day’s Flat feature, the listed Arthur Guinness Irish EBF Corrib Fillies’ Stakes, aboard the Jessica Harrington-trained Raknah.

From his draw in stall five, Carroll ensured he took an early lead and thereafter he controlled the pace aboard the 16-1 chance. Princess Child made rapid late progress, but the leader had timed her move to perfection to prevail by a neck.
