Greenfinch makes all for Lordan at Killarney

WINNING FEELING: 'Irish Examiner' racing correspondent Tommy Lyons with Paul Dowling, Lauren Dowling, and Karl McCay after Molly Hall won the first division of the Irish Examiner Handicap at Killarney on Wednesday. Picture: Healy Racing

For the third time in 10 years, Wayne Lordan rode the winner of the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Cairn Rouge Stakes, the feature on the third day at Killarney’s July Festival and this was easier than the other two as Greenfinch, who was Aidan O’Brien’s third winner of the race in 11 years, made all the running for a facile success.

Being drawn in one can be precarious, particularly if missing the kick, but Lordan got his mount out quickly and was able to dictate. That, effectively, was the story of the race as the daughter of Justify and four-time Group 1 winner Misty For Me made every yard and always looked comfortable as she readily saw off the effort of Sakti. The latter, having her first run since March, remains a smart prospect and will surely get her turn at this level, at least.
