English 2000 Guineas runner-up Rosallion can go one place better in the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas, the showpiece on Saturday’s card in the Curragh. A leading juvenile, Richard Hannon’s colt suffered the only defeat of his four-race two-year-old campaign when third in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster but got straight back to winning ways when winning the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere, beating Unquestionable, who re-opposes, by a length.
He made his return in the English Guineas and for much of the journey he travelled better than all bar the winner, Notable Speech. He didn’t have the pace to get to the winner but stayed on again close home and left the impression he could improve for the run. There seemed to be some doubts about his stamina prior to the run but he kept going well to the line and that should not be what beats him here.
