Friday’s card offers another opportunity to appreciate the quality of State Man. Not alone has the recently-crowned Champion Hurdle hero been the top hurdler on this side of the Irish Sea for quite some time, but he has also been incredibly consistent.
There is a school of thought that says he is not as good at Cheltenham as he is elsewhere, and perhaps there is a degree of truth to that, but that has little bearing on this afternoon’s Grade One Boodles Champion Hurdle which he is bidding to win for the second consecutive time.
