Not for the first nor last time, it is safe to assume, Willie Mullins wrapped up a National Hunt card by winning the bumper, but on this occasion, in the Eric Browne Memorial which brought day two of the Harvest Festival in Listowel to a close, it was a landmark success for rider Patrick Mullins as he brought his tally to a remarkable 800 winners.
The rider’s strength has long been one of his greatest assets and he needed all of it to bring favourite Luckinthecity from last to first to land the spoils. The start went wrong for the favourite as he shied away when the tape went back and found himself at the rear of the field.
