Jockey in hospital after Hamilton fall

This afternoon's meeting at Hamilton was delayed after a fall in the Try A totetrifecta At totepool.com Handicap saw Paul Mulrennan taken to Wishaw General Hospital.

Racing was delayed for at least 30 minutes as the ambulance transporting Mulrennan left the course sort of sufficient medical cover.

Mulrennan was riding Boxing Shadows for Bryan Smart when the eventual winner Manatee Bay and Joe Fanning drifted left, leading to Boxing Shadows appearing to clip heels.

Fanning was handed a seven-day ban for careless riding.

Vivian Kyles, Hamilton's chief executive, told Racing UK: "We are waiting on the medical officer to return from Wishaw Hospital as she has gone in the ambulance so we will wait for her return or another senior doctor to take her place.

"There will be a short delay until there is another medical officer on site.

"We don't know anything about Paul's condition yet, we're still in touch with the doctor that's in the ambulance and we are waiting to hear from the receiving medical team when he gets there."

Mulrennan is sponsored by Backup Technology and Ritchie Fiddes, one of the partners of the company, said: "Bryan was the first person to him and he rang me straight away.

"Paul has a suspected broken collarbone and concussion, but he is conscious."

As a matter of course, the track was inspected where the incident took place.

Clerk of the course Hazel Peplinski said: "After an incident like this the track will always be inspected but it looks pretty clear from the pictures what happened.

"After looking at the off times for the away meetings it looks like 4.10pm is the best time for us to resume.

"The senior doctor is on the way back and while she will issue an update later we can say that he is conscious."
