Redcar abandoned

This evening’s meeting at Redcar has been abandoned as parts of the track are waterlogged.

An inspection was called for 12 noon after heavy rainfall overnight and with the prospect of more to come acting clerk of the course John Sanderson felt there was no prospect of racing taking place.

“I’m afraid we’ve taken the decision to abandon,” said Sanderon.

“We had 28mm of rain overnight and into the morning and that has left a small area of waterlogged ground in the straight which isn’t safe.

“All the forecasts we use suggest another heavy band of rain is coming which could drop up to 10mm and we couldn’t take that.

“If the sun was shining and the wind was blowing we’d have a chance of it drying up but it isn’t.”
