Rizeena remains in Moyglare mix
Trainer Clive Brittain is targeting the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh with Rizeena following her creditable effort in defeat at Newmarket on Friday.
So impressive when completing a hat-trick in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, the daughter of Iffraaj was a hot favourite to follow up on her first attempt at six furlongs in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes, formerly known as the Cherry Hinton.
While she was unable to defy a 3lb penalty, Rizeena was far from disgraced in finishing second to the impressive Lucky Kristale and is now likely to test her powers at Group One level over seven furlongs in Ireland on September 1.
Brittain said: “She’s fine, there are no problems with her. I think the ground was maybe a little bit firm for her, but, having said that, when she hit the rising ground she finished very strongly.
“The Moyglare will probably be next for her. I have no doubts about the seven furlongs after the way she finished the other day. She looked like she was going to finish fifth at one stage but came home very well.
“I thought she could win (at Newmarket), but I’m not too disappointed with how she performed. It was still a very good run.”
