Wolverhampton calls off three meets

Wolverhampton's all-weather meetings on Thursday, Friday and Saturday have been abandoned.

Although the two afternoon fixtures on Monday and Tuesday will go ahead as scheduled, temperatures are set to fall later in the week.

Last Saturday's evening meeting at Wolverhampton was abandoned after just three races when jockeys raised concerns about the Polytrack surface balling under the horses' hooves once temperatures dipped.

Thursday's meeting at Wolverhampton was a twilight fixture, while Friday's and Saturday's cards were due to be on an evening.

Arena Racing Company, who own Wolverhampton, said on Sunday they would be in talks with the British Horseracing Authority and the Levy Board about either moving the three lost fixtures to afternoon starts or relocating them.

The three fixtures have been switched to afternoon cards at Lingfield, with Friday's meeting now scheduled for Sunday.

Lingfield clerk of the course Neil MacKenzie Ross said: "We've taken all three fixtures but as we're already racing at Lingfield on Friday, we've moved that card to Sunday.

"It means we'll be racing for eight days in a row at Lingfield."

The British Horseracing Authority confirmed the original entries for the Wolverhampton meetings would be scrapped, with fresh entries for all three days due in on Tuesday.

Thursday's card will declare on Wednesday, Saturday's meeting will declare on Thursday, and Sunday's fixture will declare on Friday.
