All systems go at Leicester

This afternoon’s meeting at Leicester has survived three inspections and goes ahead as scheduled – with the first race delayed until 1.10pm.

Although temperatures dropped to minus 7C, clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson and his team fought against the elements to keep the jumps fixture intact.

A extensive inspection at 11.30am ensured a happy ending after a tense morning.

Stevenson said: ``We had a group of jockeys and trainers checking the course and everyone is happy.

“The first race will now go off at 1.10 and we’ll try to fit in all the races every 20 minutes after that.

“It will be tight, but it’s great we can race.”
