Glance primed for Strensall test

Andrew Balding has opted for the extra distance of tomorrow’s Sky Bet Strensall Stakes at York over Goodwood’s Celebration Mile on Saturday for Side Glance.

The five-year-old has put in some solid performances this season, probably none better than when only beaten by Frankel and Excelebration in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot.

His only win this term came over the intermediate trip of nine furlongs in the Diomed Stakes at Epsom and he was third over 10 furlongs on the Knavesmire behind Sri Putra last time out.

“We are just keen to give him another go over a little bit further (than a mile),” said Balding.

“He ran another good race at York last time and the horse seems in good form.

“He’s been very consistent, I just hope he can carry that on. He won over nine furlongs at Epsom earlier and it might be his ideal trip.

“Bar his first couple of runs, which he needed, he put in a great performance at Epsom, a terrific run at Ascot behind Frankel and Excelebration and then ran a very solid race last time.

“I hope for more of the same and he should go close.”

Godolphin run Dubai Prince, winter favourite for the Derby when in the care of Dermot Weld.

His career since joining Mahmood Al Zarooni has been a bit stop-start and he failed to stay a mile and a half at Goodwood, but had previously looked very classy over this course and distance in July.

“Dubai Prince is a bit of an enigma. He was impressive at York two starts ago but disappointed at Goodwood last time out,” Al Zarooni.

“The return to York will suit him and I hope that he can return to form.”
