Waterlogged track sees Leicester meet abandoned

Saturday's meeting at Leicester has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.

Clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson inspected the venue just before 8am and was forced to admit defeat.

He said: "We were heavy yesterday and we've had 16 millimetres in the last 24 hours. We've had 109mm in the last three weeks which is more than we had in the whole of 2011.

"There are waterlogged areas and it's just not safe so it was an easy decision.

"We're due to race again next Thursday so we're praying for a let up in the weather now."
