Folkestone abandoned after heavy rain

Racing at Folkestone was abandoned after the second race due to unsafe ground.

Torrential rain made conditions extremely difficult and the decision was made to call off the remainder of the seven-race Flat programme following an inspection of the course.

“We’ve had 21 millimetres of rain today. Suddenly from nowhere it came down really heavy with hailstones and there were puddles of water on the track,” said estates manager Gavin Armstrong.

“The first two races went OK. There were no problems with those two races themselves, but when the rains came down it was just dangerous in the end.”
