Red Somerset rules at Lingfield

Red Somerset had little difficulty in restoring his winning sequence in the williamhillbingo.com Jackpot Surprise Selling Stakes at Lingfield this afternoon.

Mike Murphy's nine-year-old had been three-from-three at the bottom level over the course of the last month, but he was extremely slowly away at Kempton last Thursday and never had a hope of getting back on terms with April Fool.

Red Somerset was not exactly swift from the gates on this occasion as the 6-5 favourite, but hunted down Slam in the final furlong and won by a length and a half.

Jockey Kieran O'Neill said: "It was a freak thing that happened the last day - he just put his head up in the air in the stalls.

"He's not getting any quicker these days but he still did it well."

There was a fleeting interest in the now 16-times winner, but he was bought in at the auction for 5,600 guineas.

John Gallagher was pleased to put an end to a streak of near-misses as Emman Bee scooped the I Won 116k on williamhillbingo.com Handicap.

Gallagher's three-year-old filly was touched off at Kempton last week, resulting in her position as 7-2 favourite under promising apprentice Darren Egan.

Shadowing market springer Graylyn Valentino throughout, she eventually got the measure of him by half a length.

Emman Bee is evidently a complicated individual, as Gallagher said: "She's horrible! She bites and kicks and has thrown off her lass, Ella Darwin, so many times. But luckily Ella loves her.

"We've had a load of seconds and thirds from our last seven runners so it's nice to get one with the grass season coming."
