Leicester abandoned due to lack of rain

Leicester have had to abandon three chases for their second successive jumps meeting of the new season on Sunday week due to a lack of rain.

With precipitation down by half this year and because they are unable to water, clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson admits they are in the lap of the Gods.

"We've had no rain again, unfortunately. Until it rains our problem isn't going to go away," he said.

"We're in exactly the same position as we were for our meeting earlier this week.

"Until we get rain we can't solve the problem as we're not allowed to water. Our licence has run out, so we're stuck at the minute.

"There's no rain forecast over the weekend. There's a possibility of some Monday/Tuesday but we'll have to see. By the time it gets here it tends to disappear.

"We're 50% down on our annual rainfall. We're really struggling and we need quite a bit to solve our problem. There's not a lot we can do."

Leicester are also due to race on December 1, four days after the next meeting, which will now be an all-hurdles card.
