Scudamore stood down at Ludlow

Four horses came down in a bizarre incident on the bend before the fourth-last fence of a beginners’ chase at Ludlow.

Dica, who was in second place, slipped up, with Definite All Star, That’ll Do Nicely and Freddy’s Star all being hampered and exiting from the two-mile contest.

Tatispout was well in front at the time and the 13-8 joint-favourite eventually won by 99 lengths from the only other finisher, 100-1 shot Grasscutter, who was always tailed off after being slowly away.

The other runner, Tiger O’Toole, fell at the first fence.

The casualties appeared to have escaped unscathed, except for Definite All Star’s jockey Tom Scudamore.

He was stood down for the rest of the day after hurting a thumb.

“I just took a knock on my thumb, so the doctor has signed me off for the rest of the day,” he confirmed.

“It’s just swollen up a little bit but it will be fine. I’m not riding tomorrow but hopefully it will be OK for the weekend.

“I was left with nowhere to go and just landed on my thumb and bent it back a little bit.

“It’s not broken or anything, I’ve just taken a bang on it, that’s all.”
