Best Terms 'absolutely flying' ahead of Cheveley run

Best Terms is reported to be in peak condition as she bids to uphold her unbeaten record in the Jaguar Cars Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket tomorrow.

The Richard Hannon-trained filly is sure to be a warm order as she looks to add a success at the top level to her pair of two Group Two wins in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot and Lowther Stakes at York.

“She’s surprised everyone. She’d gone under the radar somehow when she won at York giving 3lb away and we’ve been thrilled with her,” said Will Edmeades, racing manager to owner-breeder Robert Barnett.

“She’s in great form. I went to see her work last Friday when Hughesie (Richard Hughes) rode her.

“He got off her with a big grin and said she was absolutely flying. With fillies this time of year you never quite know, but she ought to be thereabouts on form.

“Because it’s a Group One she’s not got a penalty which should work in our favour as well.

“The ground won’t worry her, I don’t think, as she’s such a good mover.”

Hughes is not worried about Best Terms keeping her form in the autumn.

“She’s going well and I’m looking forward to it. She impressed me more than anything else at York (over six furlongs), she was always just hanging in for speed over five in the Queen Mary,” he said.

“Richard (Hannon) wins with his two-year-olds in March and November, we don’t do much with them at home and they seem to last.”

Hannon has been delighted with Best Terms’ homework.

“While Best Terms comes out well ahead on the ratings, she has still got to go and do it on the track,” the Marlborough handler told www.richardhannonracing.tv.

“Being a late May foal, she surprised us early on by being so precocious, but some of her work at home has been exceptional, and she has just got better and better, winning the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and the Lowther at York.

“We did not expect her to win so easily at York, especially at her first attempt at six furlongs, but she settled well in front and could not have been more impressive.

“Who knows whether she will stay a mile next year, but if she could finish off winning a Group One that would leave us with the winter to dream.

“We won this race with Indian Ink five years ago, and it would be nice to think that our name is on the trophy again this year.”
