Jockey Dobbs out for six weeks after horse falls on him

Pat Dobbs expects to be sidelined for about six weeks after breaking his upper arm in a freak accident at Newmarket on Saturday.

The Flat jockey has to return to hospital next week to have an operation after being unshipped when On Her Way, his intended mount in the mile-and-a-half handicap, reared up and fell on him.

ā€œI’ve fractured my humerus. My horse reared over and fell back on me. I’ve been to hospital in Cambridge, but I’ve got to go back for an operation some time next week,ā€ said Dobbs.

ā€œI’m not sure how long I’ll be out for, it could be six weeks. I’ve got to have a plate and screws put in.ā€

Dobbs was having a successful season with 46 winners, including landing the Group Two Summer Mile at Ascot in July on Dick Turpin for trainer Richard Hannon.
