Inxile takes Abergwaun Stakes at Tipperary
Dandy Nicholls' Inxile proved yet again that he thrives in Ireland when running out a ready winner of the Abergwaun Stakes at Tipperary today.
The six-year-old was notching up his sixth win on the Emerald Isle under the trainer's son, Adrian.
A beaten favourite at Cork when last seen, he bounced right back to his best, turning the tables in no uncertain terms on Invincible Ash, who had won the corresponding race 12 months ago.
Always prominent, he was kicked clear with fully two furlongs to run and never looked like being caught.
The 4-1 chance came home two lengths clear of another British raider, Bryan Smart's Move In Time.
Nunthorpe winner Sole Power finished a disappointing fifth of the seven runners.
The winning trainer said: "The hardest part was pulling him up!
"He's done well all year but was just a bit stale last time so we gave him a break. He's been on the go since Dubai in January.
"He's a credit to the jockey as he's a pretty difficult ride. He only has two speeds and has to be led down to the start.
"He can also be a little difficult in the stalls. We try to put him in last but it's not always possible.
"He's a tough character - like his trainer and jockey. We'll go for the Nunthorpe at York next and he'll probably run in the Prix de l'Abbaye.
"I'm not saying he'll win either but he's entitled to take his chance.
"Credit to Tipperary as today's race was a proper race. It was very, very tough and it would nearly have been easier staying at home!"
