Dance team target Goodwood glory

Ed Vaughan was left rueing his luck after Dance And Dance was narrowly denied in the Royal Hunt Cup last week.

The five-year-old was denied a clear run at a crucial stage in the Royal Ascot heat but flew home to be beaten just half a length by Julienas.

The Royal Applause gelding will now be given a short break before a crack at the valuable totesport Mile at Glorious Goodwood.

ā€œHe was a bit unlucky. He met trouble in running and would have gone very close – I think he would have taken all the beating if he had got a straight run,ā€ said Vaughan.

ā€œHe’s had five runs already this season so I’ll give him a bit of a break before I bring him back for the Golden Mile (totesport Mile) at Goodwood.

ā€œI’m not tempted to run him in a Group race yet. I think he needs a break, I wouldn’t run him for at least a month so I think we’ll go straight there. You can’t go to the well too many times.

ā€œI think it’s time for a break, I prepped him pretty hard for Ascot. It nearly came off but it didn’t.

ā€œHe owes us nothing and he is a horse who potentially could be going to Dubai next year.

ā€œI’d be very surprised if he stayed 10 furlongs. It’s getting more difficult now with his handicap mark but something like the Cambridgeshire, over a mile and one, could be a possible, but you need a 10-furlong horse for that.ā€
