Lady Of The Desert set for Jubilee bow

Brian Meehan has confirmed Lady Of The Desert is on course to make her seasonal reappearance in the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot next month.

The one-time Classic hope developed into a sprinter of the highest calibre last season, finishing second in the Sprint Cup at Haydock, winning the Diadem Stakes at Ascot and going down by just a length in the Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp.

“She’s been great and we opted for a late start because the autumn is going to be so much busier for her,” Meehan told At The Races.

“She’s probably more likely to go for the Golden Jubilee – we’ve just kept her in the King’s Stand as an option.

“We had to have a crack at the possibility of giving her a Guineas preparation last year, it was only right.

“But she’s a sprinter and that is where she’ll stay.”

Another fascinating participant for Meehan at Ascot will be the Coronation Stakes-bound Theyskens’ Theory.

The daughter of Bernardini was placed in Group One company last season and looked better than ever when routing a decent field at York on her seasonal reappearance.

“She’d had a Guineas preparation so she was quite fit, but she’d had a chest infection and missed her trial to go for the Guineas,” Meehan added.

“We thought she’d win and we thought she’d win well, as she’s extremely talented and has done very well over the winter.

“We’re looking forward to the Coronation Stakes with her.”
