Dunne in dash for Epsom
Captain Dunne will bid to atone for his narrow defeat in France on Sunday in the Investec Dash at Epsom on Derby day.
Tim Easterby’s speed merchant looked to have the Group Three Prix de Saint-Georges in the bag at Longchamp but was caught in the final strides by fellow British raider Inxile.
That David Nicholls-trained rival has been in blistering form this season and denied the Great Habton handler a first Pattern-race success of the season.
The six-year-old will have to carry top weight on the Downs in a race he was second in two years ago to Indian Trail.
“He’s a very fast horse, but he’s just a bit of a short runner,” said Easterby.
“I thought he was going to last home, but he just caught. We’ll see how he is, but he’s in the Dash at Epsom and any good five-furlong race we can find.
“He’ll probably go to Goodwood at some point. He’s a cracking little horse.”
