Harrington on right path to Newmarket

Pathfork continues to delight Jessica Harrington as the unbeaten colt prepares for a crack at the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on April 30.

The American-owned son of Distorted Humor heads to Headquarters unbeaten in three starts as a juvenile, the last of those given a major boost when runner-up Casamento won the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster.

“He’s the most relaxed horse, with a wonderful temperament. He’s developed well over the winter and done everything right, but is so laid back we have to give him plenty of work,” said Harrington as she hosted a press and owners day at her yard in County Kildare.

“It’s just a question of getting him to Newmarket now healthy and well, and in the right frame of mind.

“This is breaking new territory for me. It’s exciting, but also a little bit terrifying.

“He’s been a wonderful horse for us and gave us our first Group One winner last season.”

Jockey Fran Berry said: “He’s got a remarkable temperament really, a bit like an old hack. It’s a great way to be.

“The ground didn’t really suit him in the National Stakes but the second (Casamento) has franked the form since. I was much more impressed with him on fast ground in the Futurity Stakes. That was his best run for me.

“He was only a shell of a horse last year, and has thickened out well. He has great balance and should handle the downhill run at Newmarket OK, but I suppose you never really know until they run there.”
