Frost forces Newbury check

Officials at Newbury have called a precautionary inspection for 10am ahead of this afternoon’s meeting.

Temperatures dropped lower than expected overnight so clerk of the course Richard Osgood believes it necessary to check conditions.

He said: “We have had a little bit more frost than expected. We were forecast to go down to 0C or 1C overnight but we actually got down to minus 1C or minus 2C.

“It think we will probably be all right as they’re talking about a bright day with temperatures up to 5C, but it’s just a bit crusty on top at the moment.”
