Nicholls retires My Will

Paul Nicholls has retired My Will after the chaser finished unplaced at Cheltenham on Saturday.

The 11-year-old could manage only 10th place in the Raceodds Handicap Chase won by Blazing Bailey.

My Will peaked in the spring of 2009, finishing fifth in the Cheltenham Gold Cup behind Kauto Star and going on to finish third in the Grand National behind Mon Mome just three weeks later.

Speaking on Twitter.com Nicholls said: “My Will retired gracefully after his run at Cheltenham. Been a great servant and a pleasure to train.”

My Will won eight of his 40 starts winning over £450,000 in the process for his owner Andy Stewart.

Jockey Nick Scholfield rode him eight times and added on Twitter: “Just heard of the retirement of My Will, he’s been a great horse to me and given me some class rides. Legend.”
