Cot swings in for Mullins
Willie Mullins continued his great run of form as Cottrelsbooley justified even-money favouritism in the paddypower.com Android App Maiden Hurdle at Leopardstown.
The one-eyed gelding set off in front under Paul Townend and never saw another rival throughout.
His task was made a little easier with the early departure of Tavern Times and while Buck Barrow gave chase, he never looked like getting close and was five lengths away at the line.
Mullins was late in getting to the track and his representative, Harold Kirk, said: “We have no great plans and he’ll go for a winners of one race.
“He probably has to go left-handed as he’s only got one eye as a result of being kicked as a yearling. He’s a brilliant horse to jump and gallop.”
The prolific Our Girl Sally (3-1) won her fifth race from just nine starts when running out a ready winner of the ITBA Fillies Scheme European Breeders Fund Mares Hurdle.
Prunella Dobbs looks to have a very smart mare on her hands and Barry Geraghty’s decision to ride in Ireland rather than at Newbury reaped an early dividend before Big Zeb had even set foot on the track.
Always travelling sweetly, she quickened up in fine style to score by three lengths and confirm the impression of her debut victory over hurdles.
Shop DJ rallied on the line to beat Macville by a short head for second.
Dobbs said: ``She must be so good as she had such a poor preparation for this race.
“We had about a foot and a half of snow in Wicklow and she just walked around in the snow for five days up to Christmas Eve before we could do a little bit of work with her.
“I was very nervous that we didn’t have her ready, and thought she was short of work.
“I’m not sure where we will go next but we will look after her.”
Boylesports gave the five-year-old a 25-1 quote for the David Nicholson Mares Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.
