Kempton in serious doubt
Tomorrow’s all-weather meeting at Kempton is under serious threat due to snow.
Already up to 6cm of snow has fallen at the track and it is supposed to continue falling throughout the day, right up to 11pm.
If that is the case there could be a foot of snow for groundstaff to shift, not to mention the disruption that will be caused to the local roads.
“We were forecast 3-5cm but we’ve already had more than that,” said clerk of the course Barney Clifford.
“It is supposed to snow for the rest of the day and if that is the case there will be about a foot to shift.
“We’ll be in early to clear it and we’ll see what we can achieve but by inspecting at 8am we’ll know what progress we have made.
“We do have the option of pushing back the time of the first race with our floodlights. We’ll give it a chance but it’s things like roads and availability of emergency services that could be a problem too.”
