Officials at Wolverhampton remain confident of racing this afternoon despite calling a precautionary inspection for 11am, while this afternoon’s meeting at Folkestone goes ahead after the track passed a 7.30am inspection.

Clerk of the course at Wolverhampton Fergus Cameron reports temperatures at the venue to be well below freezing at present and would like to see some improvement.

He said: “It’s minus 3C at the moment and when we finished finished racing on Saturday evening, it was minus 7C.

“We’ve got fog at the moment too, but the temperature is forecast to be between 0 and 2C today and the fog is expected to clear.

“We’ve had no snow but the track hasn’t quite behaved how we would have expected over the last couple of days, so we thought it was probably appropriate to have a look.

“It is purely precautionary and we are confident of racing.”

Folkestone's clerk of the course Andrew Waitt is satisfied with the state of the track, which is reported to be goodon the chase course and good to soft on the hurdles track.

“We’re going ahead,” he confirmed.

“We have a light dusting of snow on the track and we are currently brushing that off but we didn’t go below 0 overnight.”
