Chrysanthemum blooms for Wachman

Chrysanthemum proved a cut above when making a winning debut in the Flame Of Tara EBF Stakes at the Curragh.

The 25-1 shot looked a class act as she overcame her inexperience to take the Listed contest for owner Michael Tabor in the hands of Fran Berry.

The David Wachman-trained filly pounced in the final furlong to win by two and a half lengths from Cambina, with Aris third.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Juliet Capulet made the running for her stablemate Spin, but the 4-5 favourite faded out of contention and trailed in last.

Wachman said: “She is a filly that we always thought quite a bit of. It was a big ask in a Listed race first time though, and she has done it well.

“She could run again before the end of the season, possibly up in class.”

The successful owner struck again when the O'Brien-trained Steinbeck ran out a cosy winner of the O'Brien's Wines Supporting Jack & Jill Solonaway Stakes.

The three-year-old had put a disappointing campaign behind him when striking at Killarney last month and he followed up in style.

Jumbajukiba set the pace but the course specialist was overpowered and it was Steinbeck who came through to land the spoils.

The 11-8 favourite, ridden by Johnny Murtagh, got home by three-quarters of a length from Wade Giles with Across The Rhine half a length away third.

Arazan, who was having his first race since this meeting two years ago, made a promising comeback finishing fourth.

O’Brien said: “He was very fresh early and he could have done with a lot faster pace, but he found plenty under pressure. Better ground and a better race would suit him well.

“He is in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and he’ll be way better in a real good race. We’re looking at that race for Rip Van Winkle as well but nothing has been decided yet. Beethoven would be a possibility for there too.”
