Fenella Fudge aiming for sweet success

James Given is looking to Fenella Fudge to give him his second May Hill Stakes his success at Doncaster on Friday.

The Lincolnshire trainer landed the Group Two event for juvenile fillies with Summitville in 2002 and is hopeful of a good show from Fenella Fudge in this year’s renewal, run under the banner of Keepmoat “Delivering Community Regeneration”.

Although she has yet to win, Fenella Fudge has shown plenty of promise in finishing third in both her starts, neither of which went to plan.

“She is a similar type to Summitville – quite a rangy, long-striding sort of filly and clearly one that is going to be better next year,” he told At The Races.

“The first race she had at Doncaster didn’t really suit her but she only just got beat. She was only beaten half a length and gave up a lot of ground. We were quite happy with that.

“Her second race at Goodwood wasn’t run to suit her either. I thought she ran incredibly well as she had to make all the running.”

A field of seven is headed by Godolphin’s unbeaten White Moonstone, John Gosden’s Midnight Caller and the Paul Cole-trained Lily Again.

Al Madina, Ed Dunlop’s Musharakaat and Mick Channon’s Sonning Rose make up the list.
