Zigato takes Haydock prize
Zigato gained a dramatic success under William Buick in the opening Racing UK Handicap at Haydock.
With three furlongs to race it looked as if the long-time leader Comedy Act, ridden by Phillip Makin who was deputising for the ill Paul Hanagan, was going to pinch it.
However, he was gradually worn down by Zigato who reeled him in towards the finish to score by half a length.
Winning trainer John Gosden said: "It was a competitive event, a proper little race and it was very testing ground so I was delighted with that.
"We will have to have a look and see what the handicapper does, although I don't think he can be too severe on him, but we will have to have a look at the Mallard Handicap at Doncaster."
