Celebrity scoops Newbury honours
Richard Hannon sent out his 55th juvenile winner of the year as Celebrity improved on her racecourse debut to scoop the Highclere Thoroughbred Racing EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Newbury.
The 9-2 chance shaped with promise at the track last month and came forward for that effort to strike by two and a half lengths under champion jockey Ryan Moore.
Hannon said: "A bit of cut in the ground helped and she has really improved from her first run to her second.
"She is settling down well and I think there is more to come."
Brian Meehan celebrated his 43rd birthday in style as Waiter's Dream (7-2) stamped his mark on the Highclere Thoroughbred Racing EBF Maiden Stakes.
The Oasis Dream colt had progressed with his previous two outings and came good at the third time of asking as he made all under Kieren Fallon to cross the line with four lengths in hand.
Meehan said: "I am very pleased with that and he is certainly a horse with a future.
"He is a nice colt and we will step him up in grade now.
"He was still a bit green at Salisbury last time but has done it well today."
Al Aasifh showed his Norfolk Stakes running to be all wrong as Frankie Dettori's mount obliged as the 2-1 favourite in the Rose Bowl Stakes - Sponsored By Compton Beauchamp Estates Ltd.
Saeed bin Suroor's juvenile failed to build on an impressive Haydock success when finishing down the field at Royal Ascot.
But returned to six furlongs, the colt strode out well and pegged back Cape To Rio to score by half a length, with the pair six lengths clear.
Suroor said: "We ran him back too quickly at Ascot where the ground was too fast and they went off quick.
"The ground was right today and six furlongs suits him well.
"We will now look for the Group race for him as I hope he will be a nice horse for the future."
Madhaaq appreciated the step up to a mile and a quarter to run out a four-and-a-half-length winner of the Smith & Williamson Fillies' Handicap.
John Dunlop's 7-1 chance had posted some solid efforts this term and was far from disgraced last time out at Goodwood.
Tadhg O'Shea kept the filly restrained at the rear for much of the race but allowed her to glide through inside the final two furlongs for an impressive win.
