Young jockeys in fight for title

The race for the conditional jockeys’ championship is going down to the wire.

Rhys Flint leads Nick Scholfield by just one winner, 39 to 38, and the battle may not be decided until the very last race of the campaign tomorrow.

Both jockeys have four rides at separate meetings this evening with Flint in action at Chepstow and Scholfield on duty at Newton Abbot.

Scholfield has two mounts at Sandown on Saturday, including My Will in the feature bet365 Gold Cup while Flint goes to Market Rasen where he rides in the last three races of the season.

Flint, 19, is with Minehead trainer Philip Hobbs, who has supplied him with 10 of his winners.

“I’m very grateful to Mr Hobbs, Jim Old and my father [John Flint] who are doing everything they can to help me win. Everyone has been very supportive,” said Flint.

Scholfield, 20, has had plenty of opportunities from trainers such as Paul Nicholls, Andy Turnell and Andrew Haynes.

“No matter what happens, it’s been a great season. I’m really happy with the way things have gone,” he said.
