Fingal rocks for Casey

Peter Casey’s Fingal Rock recorded her first win over obstacles in the Grade Three Weatherbys Ireland GSB Hurdle at Fairyhouse.

Sent off at 4-1 having finished second on her hurdling introduction at Naas last month, the four-year-old moved smoothly into contention in the straight.

Favourite Doctor Deejay was in front jumping the final flight but Andrew McNamara, who guided Bluesea Cracker to Irish Grand National glory on Monday, coaxed Fingal Rock into the lead to score readily.

Big Game Hunter finished fast to deny Doctor Deejay the runner-up spot.

“I thought she had no chance. I couldn’t believe the ground. She’s only a small filly but she did better than I expected,” said Casey.

“I was hoping they would call it off this morning but I’m glad they didn’t now! I was delighted with her run at Naas last time and that’s why we decided to come here. She’ll go to Punchestown now.”
