Haggas duo to rise in grade

William Haggas is likely to step Penitent and South Easter up in class after giving the Newmarket trainer a big across-the-card double on Saturday.

Penitent could return to the scene of his William Hill Lincoln success for the Doncaster Mile on April 17, while the Huxley Stakes at Chester’s May meeting is on the agenda for South Easter following his victory in the Magnolia Stakes at Kempton.

“It was a very good day,” said Haggas.

“They both seem fine this morning. I was pleasantly surprised. They didn’t blow for very long and they didn’t lose much weight. Both of them are in pretty good shape.

“We’ve not really formed a plan yet, but I would think Penitent would go up in class and he may go back for the Doncaster Mile, a Listed race.

“South Easter might go to Chester for the Group Three Huxley Stakes.”
