Mafki aimed at Classic campaign

Makfi could earn a start in the stanjames.com 2000 Guineas if he distinguishes himself in next month’s Prix Djebel.

Trainer Mikel Delzangles made an entry for the son of Dubawi at Newmarket after he scored on his only start, a seven-furlong event at Fontainebleau late last November.

The Djebel is one of the key French Classic trials, won by the likes of Kingmambo and Pennekamp, but last year proved a stumbling block to Freddie Head’s Naaqoos.

It will be staged at Maisons-Laffitte on April 8.

Up-and-coming trainer Delzangles said: “He had a good winter and is working towards running in the Prix Djebel.

“It all depends what happens there. If he were to win well, then he could go for the 2000 Guineas.”
