Newbury to have precautionary check

This afternoon’s fixture at Newbury is subject to an impromptu 9.30am precautionary inspection.

Officials at the Berkshire venue are forced to assess conditions after overnight temperatures dipped to minus 4.5C.

Clerk of the course Richard Osgood is, however, confident the meeting will go ahead.

He said: “We’re due to go up to 8C and the sun is out already.

“I can’t see us having a problem, but I need to have a look – just in case.”
