Fontwell survives impromptu inspection

This afternoon’s meeting at Fontwell, featuring the National Spirit Hurdle, will go ahead as planned.

Clerk of the course Ed Arkell called an impromptu 9am inspection earlier this morning due to a night of heavy rain but he is confident the track is raceable.

“It’s good news, we are racing,” said Arkell.

“We’ve had trainers, jockeys and the chairman of the stewards down and they are all happy that we are fit to go.

“There is still some light rain about at the moment but nothing to unduly worry us.”

The National Spirit Hurdle will see David Pipe’s veteran Lough Derg bid for a hat-trick in the race.
