Hennessy blow for Greatrex

Hennessy, one of the leading fancies for Saturday’s Sky Bet Chase at Doncaster, has been ruled out after sustaining a season-ending injury.

The nine-year-old, who is trained by Warren Greatrex, was last seen when winning the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown in April and was a 16-1 chance with William Hill to make a victorious return at the weekend.

However, Greatrex has confirmed the Malcolm Denmark-owned gelding has suffered a setback and will not run again this term.

A statement from the yard to Press Association Sport said: “Hennessy, who was due to run in the Sky Bet Chase at Doncaster this Saturday, has unfortunately sustained an injury to his tendon, the result of which means he will be spending the remainder of the year on the sidelines.

“His prospects of making a full recovery are good.”
