Tiddliwinks takes Kempton prize
Amy Ryan displayed nerves of steel aboard her father Kevin's Tiddliwinks in the 2for1dogs.com - Go Greyhound Racing For £1 Pound Handicap at Kempton today.
The 2008 champion lady Flat amateur rider is set to take a well-earned break after totting up 21 wins in the previous 12 months and ensured she finished on a high courtesy of the 10-11 favourite.
The improving four-year-old bolted up at the track over six furlongs the previous Saturday and again easily obliged under a 6lb penalty thanks to Ryan's waiting tactics.
She anchored the heavily-backed market leader behind a wall of horses and drove her mount up to take advantage of the running rail dropping away for the inner home turn to earn a clear-cut two-length success.
The winning rider said: "I let him settle himself and dad said not to kick on until the rail dropped away and it worked out well.
"The slow early pace helped him as he was able to settle into a nice rhythm and he feels like quite a nice horse to me - he showed a really good turn of foot there."
Alastair Lidderdale was delighted with the exploits of Litenup and Know No Fear as the pair provided him with a near 49-1 double - his first brace since taking out a licence in 2002.
Litenup was first off the mark with Wanderson d'Avila nicking division two of the williamhill.com - Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap with a canny front-running ride aboard the 8-1 chance.
That race was in safekeeping a long way out while Tom Queally provided a little more drama with Know No Fear in the williamhill.com - Bet In Play Now! Handicap.
Tanley, the 2-1 market leader, squeezed through between rivals inside the final two furlongs and victory appeared assured, but Know No Fear was only gathering himself up and came with a late dash from the rear to secure victory by a neck.
Lidderdale said: "I am over the moon (with) the way things have gone and I was optimistic both would run well.
"I have to pay tribute to the Lambourn gallops men who had kept the gallops open and allowed us to keep the horses fit and well."
He added of the winners: "Wanderson is a good jockey and rode a lot of winners in Brazil.
"He gave the filly a cracking ride from the front and timed it to perfection.
"Tom gave Know No Fear a great ride and he quickened up really well.
"He is a horse who needs to have confidence and when he does, he acquits himself well.
"Both are entered again on Friday and could well run again if in good form."
Paul Howling's Lyrical Intent appreciated the step back to a mile and a quarter to oblige as the 5-2 favourite in division one of the handicap, while Gheed caused a 28-1 upset when emerging as the leading candidate from Kevin Morgan's two runners in the williamhill.com/bonus25 Maiden Stakes.
David Evans completed an across-the-card double as 11-4 joint favourite Goodbye Cash followed up Clear Sailing's Lingfield success in the William Hill 0800 44 40 40 Bet Now! Fillies' Handicap, with Nicky Mackay upsetting favourite backers as Feel The Magic pegged back 11-10 market leader Bookiesindex Girl in the William Hill Telephone Betting Open 24/7 Handicap.
