Snow leads to Kempton abandonment
Today’s meeting at Kempton has been abandoned on safety grounds – with Thursday’s meeting also in doubt.
The track is currently raceable, but heavy snow in the area has left the Sunbury venue inaccessible.
Ambulances and medical staff due to be on service at the meeting cannot get to the track, leaving clerk of the course Barney Clifford with no option but to abandon following three inspections.
“Unfortunately we’ve had to abandon, it is snowing very heavy again here now,” reported Clifford.
“The main problem is inaccessibility for officials such as ambulance men and doctors.
“We’ve given it every chance but the weather has beaten us. We had to give it time.
“The forecast is for more heavy snow so we will be inspecting for tomorrow’s meeting and we’ll confirm a time for that later today.”
